Fantastic Frank’s Vienna Sausages is a reimagined take on a nostalgic snack, designed to shift the stigma around canned meats by appealing to both kids and parents. Inspired by Goldfish and milk cartons, the packaging is compact and upright with a tear-and-fold opening for interactive snacking. Each flavor features a unique illustrated character, turning the sausages into a playful cast of snack-time friends. A house-shaped multipack adds charm and collectibility.

The visual identity leans on kawaii aesthetics—simple faces, blushing cheeks, and bright colors—to give each sausage personality and warmth. Hand-drawn illustrations and approachable typography balance cuteness with shelf-ready clarity, refreshing the category without talking down to families.

Created in collaboration with Casey Lovegrove and Neha Biluve Shireesha for the 2018 Institute of Packaging Professionals 48-Hour Repack competition. Awarded First Place in the national design challenge.

ILLUSTRATIONS
The illustration system for Fantastic Frank’s draws from kawaii aesthetics to give each sausage a playful, friendly face. Simple, expressive characters with blushing cheeks and bold eyes bring personality to each flavor. A die-cut window on the front of the package places these faces directly on the sausages inside, turning the product into part of the character system. This small moment of interaction adds surprise and delight, making the snack feel more like a friend than a food.
